DI Desk

I'm really quite giddy about this desk. I went on a little D.I. extravaganza run. Me and some girlfriends went to 4 D.I.'s to see what treasures we could find. Well we found quite a bit, but there is only so much I can fit in my car. I found this desk for 20. I was looking for an old desk like this for my boys. I thought I will paint it black for the boys, but there is too much detail in this bad boy to hide it with black paint. So red it is..(remember I am a sucker for red) I might still be able to make it work in the boys room, but if not sell it I will. Well let's start from the beginning.
I put the doll house on this desk while I spray painted it. Oopsie. Got some on the desk. Not a problem I just sanded it off a little. It came right off. There were some big scratches in the top which I love. Some people may look at it and say too many scratches, but thats what makes the desk have Character. I sanded down the top just a smidge. Just to make it nice and smooth. Scratches still there, but just not as huge. Then I primed it with Kilz. After I primed it I spray painted it with Krylon Cherry Red. One of my favorite colors. I brought the desk inside on the table to glaze it. My family is probably so ready for me to stop having furniture on the table. But it is still chili outside. brrrrr Now this desk was awesome to Glaze. The only problem is that there are a lot of flat surfaces which means that the glaze doesn't show as much. So I took the glaze and put it on the the surfaces and then took a wet sponge to put it all over.

After the glazing you just take a wet rag and wipe it off. As I did this I would wipe towards the middle. You really just have to play with it. The nice thing is...if you don't like the way it looks then wipe it all off and try again. I love the way that it turned out. It looks rather old (which it is, but a "pretty" old, I hope I am that way hee hee) Then the hardware on this bad boy I just painted black. I seriously can't get over this piece. I love it. What do you think? Now where am I going to put it? If you notice the two legs don't match. No worries, the hubs is making a piece that matches the other to one. I will post that later.
